Locomotion is an orchestral work written for my grandfather’s 76th birthday, inspired by his life and career as a locomotive driver. Drawing on my interest in film composition, I aimed to create a cinematic sound world through driving rhythms, expansive textures, and evolving orchestral colour. The piece is built around the development of a central motif, which I constructed with counterpoint and musical dialogue between instrumental sections, allowing contrasting timbres to interact and propel the music forward.
