O Magnum Mysterium? is an electronic work that takes Morten Lauridsen’s choral masterpiece ‘O Magnum Mysterium’ and puts it through a journey of distortion, deconstruction, and fleeting redemption. The piece metaphorically abuses the source material through a range of electronic manipulations, including booser, EQ, filtering, time-stretching, granulation, and rhythmic fragmentation, transforming a once-sacred piece into an unstable soundscape of noise, tension, and glitches in sound. The question mark in the title symbolises a sense of doubt and confrontation. What happens when something beautiful is pushed and abused to its absolute limits? Can it survive? Can it be reconstructed and redefined as beautiful again?
